Wireless Recording Setups You Can Try Instantly with the ECM-W2BT
The Sony ECM-W2BT is the perfect wireless microphone for YouTubers, vloggers, content creators, and journalists using Sony cameras. It supports Digital Audio Interface via the Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe. This means that when the microphone is connected to a compatible camera, the receiver will include digital audio signals from the microphone straight through the MI Shoe without needing to plug in external cables. It also features advanced Bluetooth technology for exceptionally clear audio with minimal lag, allowing you to shoot vlogs, product reviews, and interviews seamlessly.
An overview of the ECM-W2BT
The ECM-W2BT consists of three different pickup modes: MIX mode, MIC mode, and a new RCVR mode. MIX mode gathers audio from the transmitter and receiver, which can come in handy when you need audio from both the user and subject, while RCVR mode will only pick up audio from the receiver unit attached to the MI Shoe. It’s great for two-person shooting set-ups as well. On the other hand, MIC mode will only record audio from the microphone transmitter.
The ECM-W2BT works with an external 3.5mm stereo mini-jack and audio input to facilitate stereo sound pickup. It can be used in conjunction with a stereo-capable lavalier microphone, namely the ECM-LV1 which can be easily attached to the subject’s clothing and record audio with added realism.
It also has a built-in attenuator function that enables users to choose one of three attenuator levels based on the volume of the sound source to amplify softer sounds to record louder audio or record extremely loud sounds at a lower volume.
Setting up the ECM-W2BT to your Sony camera
To set up the ECM-W2BT to your camera, start by turning on the camera and receiver. Set your camera in standby mode and select the audio output you want on the receiver using the slide switch indicating (MIC OUT ANALOG/ Power OFF/ DIGITAL). Next, locate the power switch on the microphone and select “ON”.
The LINK lamps on the receiver and microphone will start blinking in blue right after the devices are turned on. This signifies that each of the devices is attempting to detect, and connect to the other device. Once a communication connection is initiated between the receiver and microphone, the LINK Lamps on both devices will stop blinking and stay lit in blue, indicating that audio recording is ready. If the connection fails to establish, bring the receiver and microphone nearer to each other and try again. Finally, ensure that the LINK Lamp on the receiver is lit, then press the “Record start” button on the camera to begin recording.
With its lightweight and compact design, in addition to its easy-to-use features and extraordinary audio capture. If you’re looking to up your audio game for videos, ECM-W2BT wireless microphone will be a great accessory for your Sony camera.
