Here’s what you’ll need
Planning your shoots
To film better, I usually create challenges for myself; no matter how simple or ridiculous it sounds, I always aim to achieve the outcome I envision. Although the end result of my video shoots may not always be to my liking, I’ve discovered on multiple occasions that being prepared helps in the video-taking process.
I usually create a creative workflow before I film and think it through properly (with an open mind, of course) on how I’ll frame and execute the scenes. Brainstorming and writing down a shortlist helps in these situations. I’ll start to get more precise shots, and my shots will align with the idea I had when I first got inspired.
Extra Tips
Planning doesn’t just come before shoots, it can also happen after. I ask myself while reviewing the footage after the shoot: “How should I carry out the next scene?” or “what else do I need to shoot to improve the video?” These questions are helpful during the shoot as it allows me to film the necessary shots I need.
Have a review session with yourself or your friends, and from there, you’ll know what to improve when you’re out on your next shoot.
