Observe Carefully, Hold Your Breath and Wait

When you take pictures, walk a little more. In between steps, at the corners of the streets or as you wait for the traffic lights, look around and discover the beauty around you. Observe carefully, hold your breath and wait.

Sometimes, we can slow down our pace alongside the shutter speed to create a sense of movement around the subject of our pictures. Slowing your shutter speed blurs the passing crowd and cars. You will find that even though the elements of the scene are fluid, you can still capture the moment that you want. A picture can look completely different when you infuse it with different ideas.

Photography is simple. It just needs us to be patient and observant, to hold our breath and wait. We need to inject the emotions that we wish to capture, so that the picture will become a shot of the precious moment we want to freeze in time.

Less is More

When taking a picture of your favourite scenery, whichever focal length and aperture you use, one of the most classic techniques is “less is more.” Use a simple or important subject to present the image that you want and leave the rest to the photo to tell its story!

Use the precise focusing of a full-frame camera to create a smooth bokeh effect, which can add more depth and give a dreamy look to your photo. Let the foreground and background highlight the clear sea water in the middle. Just like that, you have a beautiful picture where the sky and sea meet!

If you find a picture too busy, try cropping it and you may find a new perspective. The high image quality of a full-frame camera provides more cropping space without compromising the level of detail. This allows more room for creativity.

Compress a Scene into a Painting with Telephoto Lens

When it comes to landscape photography, the go-to is a wide-angle lens to fully capture what you see in front of you. A telephoto lens, however, allows for a broader perspective, and can create a fascinating sense of spatial compression that presents a unique visual.

The pocket-sized RX100 VIII has a focal length of 24-200mm, which covers the most commonly used viewing angles. It can capture both wide-angle and telephoto images and its zoom speed is also versatile. This allows you to enjoy the visual compression of a picture without needing to carry around a large telephoto lens.
